Dear Friends:
One of our
donors, Judy Smith, sent me these beautiful pictures, which I immensely
enjoyed. So I thought maybe they would make you feel good too!

As for Jim and
me, we are enjoying the Florida sunshine. We spent Christmas with our
daughter who moved to Florida a couple of years ago from Germany. This is
the first Christmas we have spent together for at least 20 years. No plowing
through 10 feet of snow for us for a few more weeks. We plan on hanging
around here for a while longer to soak up some much needed warmth and
sunshine.
In the meantime
I am sure things will run smoothly at the Shelter. We have hired someone to
plow the snow. Rebecca, the new woman at the Shelter, will be able to get
back and forth to the buildings and also can let out the dogs for their
playtime.
Our food source,
Shaws, has dried up completely. That means more money is needed to buy food.
We have had a food donation from the local Petco Store. Hopefully they will
give us more. One never knows since there are so many Shelters hurting right
now. I just finished the yearly bookkeeping for the IRS, even though we are
tax exempt, we have to give a yearly report of all our income - your
donations, and our expenses.
Over the years
donations are getting to be less and less. Since Charley died in 1996, we
have approximately one third less in donations. This is most likely a
national trend with the other shelters too. It’s no wonder that they are
also asking for food donations everywhere, meaning of course there is less
for us. |
I apologize
for this short newsletter. I will be making up for it next year, I
promise. I will not be able to write the names of our donors in this
letter, or the next, since I kind of have to write the letters in
advance. I have no printer for the newsletter in Florida - sorry!

I just
wanted to let you know that all is well, and please don’t forget
Charley’s Strays!

Wishing you
a wonderful New Year! |
